The NCAA announced Wednesday that University of Memphis center James Wiseman will be suspended for 12 games and have to pay $11,500 to a charity of his choice.

Wiseman is widely considered the best big man in the country. He has long been a candidate to be selected with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft:

James Wiseman, a freshman on the University of Memphis men’s basketball team, must sit 11 additional games (12 total) based on recruiting inducements his family received before he enrolled at Memphis and for competing in three games while ineligible. He will be eligible to compete in Memphis’ Jan. 12 contest at South Florida. He also must donate $11,500 to a charity of his choice.

James Wiseman was the top high school recruit in his class. In three games this season for Memphis, Wiseman is averaging 19.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. He’s shooting 76.9 percent from the field and 70.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Wiseman will undoubtedly enter the NBA next season. His eligibility issues likely won't have a significant impact on his draft stock since he didn't do anything to harm anybody:

It's pretty easy to see why so many people have issues with the NCAA. All James Wiseman did was receive money from head coach Penny Hardaway, who provided $11,500 in moving expenses during the summer of 2017 to assist Wiseman’s family in their relocation to Memphis. At the time, Hardaway was not the coach of Memphis.

Memphis will appeal this ruling.
