With the Los Angeles Rams out of the playoffs, there's nothing really stopping safety Eric Weddle from having his surgery done on his meniscus.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the injury shouldn't be anything serious, as a meniscus trim surgery isn't one that is exciting by definition. Moreover, it's thought that the recovery period for the injury will only take weeks instead of months.

If this was done with the Rams still in the playoffs, his absence would be a loss for the team. While the Rams played disappointing defense, he was one of the few decent playmakers on defense. He finished the season with 108 tackles and four pass deflections in sixteen starts. Fortunately for him, he can take his time recovering as the Rams fell short of making the playoffs this year.

However, the most impressive fact about the entire thing is how durable Weddle is. He's been blessed with good health and didn't suffer any major injuries that would require surgery. Getting his first procedure done at 35 is a testament to his fortune and good health.

While his recovery time is a lock, there's no idea where he'll end up next season. He's an incoming free agent in the offseason, and he's not sure whether the Rams will plan to keep him around.

“I’m not going to come back to be a backup, and that’s totally fine,” said Weddle, per ClutchPoints' Shane Mickle. “That’s what I would expect them to do, and so, if that’s the case, then it will be it for me. …”

“I think it’s a foregone conclusion. Rapp, [Johnson], and we’ve got some good, young players. So, we’ll see. Nothing is set in stone, but I’ve had a great run. No regrets, baby.”

Rams fans hope he'll be able to recover in time and return to the Rams for one more crack at the Super Bowl.
