Los Angeles Rams safety Eric Weddle knows his time with the team might be over as they look to get younger at the position. Following the Rams' 31-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the team's last game of the season, Weddle reflected on his future with the team and in the league.

“I'm not going to come back to be a backup, and that's totally fine,” said Weddle via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN. “That's what I would expect them to do, and so, if that's the case, then it will be it for me. …”

“I think it's a foregone conclusion. Rapp, [Johnson], and we've got some good, young players. So, we'll see. Nothing is set in stone, but I've had a great run. No regrets, baby.”

Weddle has been dealing with injuries most of the season for the Rams and needs to undergo both shoulder and knee surgery to try to get back to 100 percent.

“I've got some things that I need to get fixed if I even remotely think about playing,” he said.

Weddle started all 16 games for the Rams and was a solid part of their defense. He was also a great locker room presence for some of the younger guys like Rapp and Johnson, who will probably take his role next season.

When asked if he planned on playing for a different team next season, Weddle said he hadn't made a final decision yet, but everyone would know soon if he would continue in the league.

“You guys will know soon enough,” he said.
