The Los Angeles Rams made quite a splash with the acquisition of cornerback Jalen Ramsey at the trade deadline during the 2019 NFL season. Now comes the matter of his long-term extension.

Although Ramsey may be eligible for an extension, the Rams still have his fifth-year option to keep him around for the 2020 NFL season. According to Stu Jackson of the team's official website, general manager Les Snead indicted that a new deal is still in the works:

“There's really no timeline on that, like when the deal gets done, at this point. But we'd definitely like to have Jalen helping the Rams for more than just the 2020 season.”

Snead's comments hardly come as any surprise since the Rams do not need to rush in order to make it happen. While there has been some speculation regarding how this would sit with Ramsey, he has already pledged that he will not hold out for a contract extension this offseason.

Both sides may still be in the early stages of negotiations, there is no question that there is plenty of mutual interest in getting it done. Los Angeles made quite the investment when they parted ways with two first-round picks, and a fourth-round pick in order to bring Ramsey aboard and he has not been shy about expressing his love for his new home.

Meanwhile, the Rams have a number of key players set to test the free agent market this offseason and Snead is still doing what he can to avoid too much turnover to the roster. Regardless, it is safe to assume that Ramsey's contract will become a priority once the dust clears.
