Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley didn't practice on Wednesday as he battles a quad injury suffered in Week 5's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The injury wasn't thought to be serious, as coach Sean McVay said, “[it] kind of caught us all off guard.”

Gurley's availability for Week 6 against the NFC West division leaders San Francisco 49ers is yet to be known. If his latest injury means he doesn't play on Sunday, the Rams could give rookie Darrell Henderson a feature role for the game.

Fortunately for us, we’ve got some depth at that position,” McVay said, via Kevin Modesti of the Orange County Register. “We’ve talked about it, whether it’s this week, at some point, the confidence we have in Malcolm. There’s also going to be a time that we’re going to rely on Darrell Henderson. It might end up being this week.”

Though the Rams made Henderson a third-round selection in this year's draft, it has been Malcolm Brown holding down the No. 2 role in Los Angeles. In turn, the rookie, hailing from Memphis, has received two offensive snaps.

Henderson received his fair share of love in the offseason, in large part due to Gurley's injury developments. The rookie is a slippery runner with the ability to hit top-speed in a jiffy. In his three years of college play, he rushed 431 times for 3,545 yards and 36 touchdowns (22 in his final year). He reeled in 63 receptions for 758 yards and eight touchdowns.

Beating the 49ers at home is a must, as the Rams have dropped the past two and are third in the NFC West standings.
