What a difference a year makes.

At this time in 2018, the Los Angeles Rams were making preparations to eventually earn a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs. Now, here we are in 2019, and it doesn't even look like the Rams will make the postseason.

Los Angeles' playoff hopes were dealt a devastating blow this past Monday when it was routed by the Baltimore Ravens to the tune of 45-6, a rout that defensive coordinator Wade Phillips takes responsibility for.

“We didn’t play well enough, we didn’t coach well enough, we didn’t set up, we thought we could stop their running game and we didn’t do that well,” Phillips said on Thanksgiving, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I put it on myself with the plan, overall.”

The Ravens put 480 total offensive yards on the Rams in Week 12, with 285 of those yards coming on the ground.

“We had to stop the running game to force them to throw the ball — although the guy can really throw the ball well,” said Phillips, referring to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. “Now, we’ll say, you’ve got to give them credit. They scored 37 [points] on New England and we’re on a quite a tear and they kept doing it against us too. I didn’t think they would, but they did. Credit to them, but I think we needed a better plan and we didn’t have it. That’s my fault.”

Los Angeles is now 6-5 on the year and will face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in what is a must-win game for the defending NFC champions. The Rams will then have to face the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Cardinals (for a second time) to close out the season.
