Guard/forward Norman Powell has agreed to a four-year, $42 million extension with the Toronto Raptors, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Raptors made sure to extend Powell this year, as he could have yielded even more money as a restricted free agent next season.

This puts Toronto at $124 million in guaranteed contracts for 2018-19 after his extension, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks — but guarantees a solid playmaker than can play three different positions within the lineup and has proved a valuable contributor in the postseason.

This extension mirrors the one Josh Richardson had with the Miami Heat earlier in the summer, one which could not have been possible under the prior collective bargaining agreement. This year's CBA has honed into allowing teams to retain their homegrown talent.

Powell was able to garner the max possible extension for his services, putting Toronto in the tax bracket, but securing a three-and-D option that could prove worth every penny throughout the season. He averaged 8.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game last season, but saw those averages sky in the playoffs, posting 11.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in over 25 minutes per game, along with a blistering 44.1 percent from beyond the arc.

His role moving forward will be more active with the loss of Cory Joseph, but is likely to see more time backing up DeMar DeRozan at shooting guard and projected starter C.J. Miles at small forward.
