The Tampa Bay Rays will pick up after the All-Star break with Harold Ramirez dealing with an injury. It's a brutal development for a team in the middle of a competitive playoff race.

Ramirez was hit right in the hand by a pitch from Jordan Lyles during the first inning against the Baltimore orioles but stayed in the game. According to Marc Topkin of the Tamba Bay Times, Ramirez suffered a broken right thumb and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

This injury is a tough blow for Tampa Bay. Ramirez has been one of the team's best hitters, as he is one of two qualified players to have an OPS over .800, along with first baseman Ji-Man Choi. The 27-year-old designated hitter/outfielder has 79 hits with a triple slash of .329/.376/.446 in 77 games.

The only good news for the Rays is that Ramirez's injury comes right before the All-Star Break. He will have a few days to recover where he won't miss any games. Tampa Bay will play the Kansas City Royals right after the break and also have series against the Orioles, Cleveland Guardians, Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers following that. Each of those teams should be beatable, even with Ramirez injured.

Along with young pitcher Shane Baz, who is dealing with elbow issues, Harold Ramirez will look to get back to action soon and help the Rays in the American League Wild Card race.
