Ricky Rubio knows it's not going to be easy. Nearly impossible, actually.

The point guard for Spain is looking to help his country pull off a monumental upset today in the semifinals of the Rio Olympics vs. Team USA.

Rubio understands Spain will have to play practically perfect for it to happen.

Via the Associated Press:

“We've been battling against them for a long time. We've always come up short. It would be a dream for us to beat them. I really think we can do it, but we have to have the perfect game.”

Rubio went on and brought up Argentina's Golden Generation and their team that won gold in the 2004 Olympics. That was the last team besides the United States to win the gold medal.

Rubio is hoping the same type of script could be written for his Spanish team.

“It would mean the world,” Rubio said. “I remember watching Argentina beat the U.S. in 2004, and I think maybe the same story that Argentina wrote with the ‘Gold Generation,' we can write too.”

The United States and Spain tip off today at 2:30 p.m. EST. Team USA is still perfect in the Olympics, fresh off a 105-78 win over Argentina in the quarterfinals. Spain made it to the semis despite losing the first two games of group play to Croatia and Brazil by a combined three points.
