Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul's trainer and longtime friend, Idan Ravin, says time is of the essence for CP3 right now in terms of winning a championship.
Paul is 33 years old and turns 35 on May 6. The Rockets' floor general has never played in the NBA Finals.
If his career ended today, Paul would be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but would be on the list of the NBA greats who never won a championship. It's why these next couple of seasons for the Rockets and Paul are so important.
Ravin hopes Paul can play another five or six years, but admits the nine-time All-Star is getting close to the end.
“Hopefully he has five, six, seven years left,” Ravin told Jordan Ritter Conn of The Ringer. “But maybe he’s at, say, the 70-yard line in his career. You know? Time is of the essence.”
The Rockets signed Paul to a lucrative four-year, $159.7 million maximum contract last summer. Paul is making $35,654,150 this season and will earn a staggering $38,506,482 in 2019-20 and $41,358,814 in 2020-21.
The Rockets were one game away from advancing to the Finals last season. They lost to the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Many believe if Paul didn't hurt his hamstring in the series, Houston would have went to the Finals and won the title.
