A new 3D Donkey Kong game may be coming for the Nintendo Switch.

According to rumors, an internal development team in Nintendo called Nintendo EPD has been formed to work together for a new 3D Donkey Kong game. Confirmations on these rumors have not been made yet, but where there's smoke, there's fire.

Donkey Kong Nintendo Switch game leaks and rumors

Known Nintendo Switch leaker LonelyGoomba shared in a tweet that he has read rumors about a new 3D Donkey Kong game coming. He says the rumors he has read say that the team behind Nintendo's very successful Super Mario Odyssey will develop this game. However, he also clarified that he's only sharing rumors he encountered, but don't have any insider information of any kind. Yes, we get the irony of sharing the tweet that calls out news sites quoting the tweet, but it's the tweet that amplified the rumors.

Meanwhile, another leaker by the name of Zippo alleged that he knows a game is on the horizon. But his tune is different from LonelyGoomba's, claiming instead that the game will be in 2D. “It's the big ape's 40th anniversary,” writes Zippo in his blog. “While I'm not sure how Nintendo is celebrating the occasion, there is a new 2D DK game being developed by EPD Tokyo.”

DK Vine, probably one of the most dedicated sites when it comes to anything Donkey Kong, backs up these claims. Apparently, the new game has been in development since around 2017 or 2018. However, when it comes to whether or not the game will be in 2D, 2.5D, or 3D, DK Vine claims to not have any info regarding it. “It probably won't have the Country branding,” writes DK Vine. “Outside of some retro-tinged arcade memorabilia, Donkey Kong Country IS the Donkey Kong brand now.”
