The polarizing D.K. Metcalf got his first look at NFL action Thursday night. The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver played in limited snaps and caught a pass for eight yards on four targets. For a second-round pick once considered the likely top receiver taken in the 2019 NFL Draft, it wasn't his best night, as he said after the game, via Seahawks Wire's Liz Mathews,

“I mean, you know, just got to connect,” Metcalf said. “We’re going to go back and watch the film and correct our mistakes in our practice.”

Though Metcalf didn't explode onto the scene in a meaningless preseason game, Pete Carroll is impressed by his receiver. In training camp, Metcalf has put on a show, looking the part of a potential Doug Baldwin replacement. The Seahawks' coach was clearly pleased with his rookie's preseason debut, too.

“Oh, just a hair from spectacular [on his debut],” Carroll said. “He’s made a couple of those catches before. He clicked heels with the guy and almost got the first one, and the second one was just off his fingertips. You could see that he got behind him, just like we’re hoping. He’s a big threat.

Perhaps no receiver in the 2019 draft crop is receiving as much hype as Metcalf.

The former Ole Miss Rebel shattered expectations at the NFL Combine, recording a 4.33 second 40-time, 40.5-inch vertical, 134-inch broad jump, and 27 225-pound bench press reps. He also measured in at 6-foot-3 and 228-pounds with a rumored sub-2.0 percent body fat percentage. In college, he totaled 67 catches for 1,228 yards and 14 touchdowns in three seasons of oft-injured play.
