Following their season missing the playoffs in six years, the Seattle Seahawks have made a huge shift toward reshaping their roster. In fact, over the last few weeks the front office has made an internal push, moving on from a few of their key longtime players on the defensive side of the ball.

The Seahawks have already agreed to a trade involving Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett, sending him to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a pair of draft picks. According to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, the team is reportedly expected to part ways with veteran cornerback Jeremy Lane as well.

Seattle is also expected to soon release cornerback Jeremy Lane, which would save $4.75 million against the cap.

Since being selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft, Lane has spent his first six seasons in the league with the Seahawks, establishing himself as a key piece of the secondary. During that stretch, he played in 70 games where he made 21 starts while recording two interceptions, 146 total tackles, and 16 pass deflections.

What should be noted is that Lane was arrested in January for a DUI, which could have factored into their decision to go this route with the 27-year-old. He is in the third year of his four-year, $23 million deal that had non-guaranteed salaries of $6 million in each remaining campaign.

This news comes shortly after the Seahawks reportedly informed All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman that he will be released by the end of the weekend. Sherman is set to play in the final year of his four-year, $56 million that has him on the books for $13.2 million in 2018. He is currently recovering from a torn Achilles tendon that he suffered last November.

All of this could be the beginning of a few major changes to the Seahawks roster ,as the team currently has just over $14 million in salary cap space available this offseason.
