New York Knicks fans are celebrating for the moment because they've quickly moved past Phil Jackson and his failed implementation of the triangle era.

They're happy because Jackson's firing came in the midst of him looking to trade arguably the team's best player, Kristaps Porzingis.

Jackson seemed to want to send the seven-foot Latvian a message for skipping the team's exit meeting and being out of contact completely since the season ended.

According to ESPN's Ian Begley, sources claim Jackson wasn't the only one in favor of trading the Unicorn away from the Big Apple. Apparently, other members of the team's front office also felt it was time to part ways with the Latvian:

Several members” of the Knicks were in favor of trading Porzingis before the draft, and the team had “serious conversations” about a deal with both the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics.

It was reported that the trade rumors were blown out of proportion, although the Knicks met and talked with sharpshooting seven-footer Lauri Markkanen about joining the team prior to the draft.

Markkanen was eventually selected prior to the Knicks' pick, and New York turned their focus to removing Jackson shortly after the draft.

Steve Mills is currently running the teams day-to-day operations and the search for a new GM is currently underway. Porzingis never wanted to leave New York, and his wish has been granted.
