With his impending return happening anytime in the next few weeks, the Philadelphia 76ers have assigned their young center, Nerlens Noel, to their D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.

This move is part of his rehab program as he tries to get back into game shape and as he continues to recover from the inflamed plica above his left knee that required arthroscopic surgery back in October.

Should he make his return as scheduled, the 22-year-old Kentucky product is expected to compete with the likes of Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid for the lion's share of the minutes at the center position. However, with his ability to run the floor and also alter opponents' shots, it is also possible that he can play power forward during some stretches.

The Sixers have made it clear that they will trade one of their big men to somewhat clear the logjam they have created in their frontcourt. If Noel does not want to be the odd-man out, he'll need to prove to the coaching staff that he can still continue to be an asset to the franchise and can co-exist with his fellow big men especially on the court.
