Following the decision of the Philadelphia 76ers to waive 6-foot-7 shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz after two unproductive seasons with the squad, the 21-year-old Turkish national is currently without a team in the NBA.

However, as reported by Bugra Uzar of Eurohoops.net, Korkmaz is still hopeful that he will remain in the league for next season, and only sees a return to Europe as a back-up option.

Eurohoops sources mention that his priority is to stay in the NBA. The 21-year-old player will wait until the end of July and will meet with NBA teams to look for a suitable contract for him. Per the same sources, he could consider getting back to Europe only if he could not get a contract as he wishes in the NBA.

The Sixers drafted Korkmaz as the 26th overall pick back in 2016. Things did not exactly pan out as expected for him during his two-season stint in Philadelphia, with Korkmaz averaging only 4.9 points, 0.8 three-pointers, 1.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.5 steals in 12.2 minutes per contest. To be fair to him, he did have several bouts of injury during his time in Philly, so this may have been a factor that held him back from fully reaching his potential in the NBA.

At the moment, there are no NBA teams that have shown a serious interest for Korkmaz, so despite his desire to remain in the U.S., he might just be heading back to Europe within the next month or so.
