Sixers star Joel Embiid is not only one of the most talented players in the NBA, but on Saturday he announced he would donate the entirety of his $100,000 All-Star bonus to local Philly charities.

Now, the Sixers franchise has followed suit and will donate $100,000 to the three charities that Embiid was donating to: Project HOME, Sunday Breakfast Mission and Youth Service Inc., according to Tim Bontemps of ESPN.

Embiid is having the best season of his career at age 26 and is the frontrunner for the MVP award alongside notable figures such as Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, and Luka Doncic.

The Cameroon-born center is putting staggering per-game averages for the Sixers of 30.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.4 blocks in only 33 minutes per game – staggering numbers on a per-minute basis.

He is also blowing his career-high for true shooting percentage out of the water this season with a stunning 64.6 percent. His previous high in that advanced metric was 59.0 percent last season.

Considering the fact that Embiid is getting double-teamed almost immediately upon touching the ball, as well as the fact that he still does take difficult three-pointers on occasion (such as the “walk-back” triple he hit against the Jazz to force overtime), that’s no small feat.

So far this season, Embiid is second in Player Efficiency Rating (31.1), 2nd in box plus/minus (8.5) and 2nd in win shares (5.8).

Him also being a selfless philanthropist and a generally funny guy makes him one of the most likable players in the NBA and a cornerstone for the Sixers.
