Current Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey knows all about dominant offensive forces. Morey was the one who brought James Harden, and subsequently watched “The Beard” evolve into one of the most gifted offensive players in league history. Yet, Morey feels Sixers center Joel Embiid might be even more lethal than Harden:

“I get in trouble when I say stuff like this,” Morey said, via Howard Beck of Sports Illustrated, “but he’s the most unstoppable thing I’ve ever seen. And I've seen a lot. You know who I’ve seen. But I’ve never seen anything like it. Like last night against Rudy Gobert, he faced him up at eight feet, and I mean it ended in a dunk. And (Gobert) is an amazing defender. And he had no answer.”

Embiid has consistently worked on bolstering his case as the best center in the NBA in recent seasons. But he has taken it up another notch during the 2020-21 campaign for the Sixers.

The 26-year-old is averaging 30.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Embiid is shooting over 52 percent from the floor and close to 42 percent from the three-point line. He is averaging 11.6 free-throw attempts per game, bullying opposing centers inside while also having the ability to face up and knock down midrange jumpers.

Embiid has also found intrinsic motivation. Morey alluded to his 40-point, 19-rebound performance against Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz last week. That performance was fueled by the idea Embiid was “scared” of facing Gobert.

The Sixers star has powered Philly to the best record in the Eastern Conference thus far. Embiid could be headed for MVP honors, though he would likely prefer a ring at the end of the season.
