Steph Curry tells fans not to expect undefeated 82-0 season with addition of Kevin Durant

In an interview with Bay Area News Group’s Marcus Thompson, Steph Curry discussed the process of acquiring Kevin Durant in free agency as well as the heavy expectations that will be placed on him and his new teammate this upcoming season.

Curry told Thompson that Durant was attracted to their locker room style, saying that Durant will easily fit on the team:

“(Durant) would fit right in. He’s a team guy. That’s who he really is. We told him he wouldn’t have to change anything and we wouldn’t have to change anything for him.”

The 2013-14 MVP ultimately decided to leave his Oklahoma City franchise, where Durant played since the organization’s inception, to join the rival Western Conference finalists. Many around the league, including ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith and legendary shooter Reggie Miller, feel that Durant made a wrong choice for both his legacy and his pursuit of a championship.

Thompson further questioned Curry about the perceived unfair ability to stack players on this roster, to which Curry replied resoundingly

“We’re going to have to work. We’re going to have to play well. Nothing will be given to us. We’re not going to go 82-0 and blow everybody out. We are going to be challenged.”

Whether or not the Warriors truly have a hard path back to the NBA Finals will remain to be seen. Golden State went on to earn the highest amount of regular season wins this year, surpassing the regular season record of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, but the failure to win the championship has brought an entirely different roster into the next campaign. With the likes of Andrew Bogut, Harrison Barnes, Leandro Barbosa, and Festus Ezeli on to different franchises, this new Warriors roster will have a lot to work on over this offseason.

For Curry, he only projected optimism about next season and true determination to win another ring for the Bay. About next season, Curry commented:

“I’m hype. But I can use the rest, so no rush for me. But it will be an exciting season.”
