Former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett has signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Phoenix Suns, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Bennett has seen a disappointing start to what seemed to be a promising career, playing for four teams in his four NBA seasons since being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The 24-year-old Canadian has struggled transitioning from the college game to the NBA, playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Toronto Raptors, and the Brooklyn Nets during his last three seasons, but garnering only four starts in his 151 games in the league.

His last season with the Nets saw him average five points and 3.4 rebounds per game in a whisker over 11 minutes per game. Mainly a rebounder in the league, the Suns will explore if there is any potential left in him by inviting him to training camp as the preseason nears.

Phoenix has plenty of frontcourt depth, but is doing its due diligence by stacking number and letting them compete over camp in order to maximize a showcase of their abilities.

In the unlikely stage that Bennett makes the roster, he'll likely be stuck behind second-year players Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender, who the organization has been intent in developing this upcoming season.
