Deandre Ayton may be looking to start his second season with the Phoenix Suns, but his Bahamian blood takes precedence as he is looking to raise funds to help his country in the wake of Hurricane Dorian.

Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas two weeks ago, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. The official death toll in the Caribbean nation has already climbed to 50 (the actual number is much higher), and they have to brace for another hurricane as another tropical storm warning was issued for the country.

Both Ayton and Sacramento Kings guard Buddy Hield have used their influence as NBA players to help the country in any way possible. Hield has appeared on ESPN and talked about the situation. He also got the Sacramento Kings, Luke Walton, and Kenyon Martin to donate for the country.

Meanwhile, Ayton started a supplies drive in Phoenix. He couldn't hide his surprise and appreciation when people showed up in droves to his initiative:

“This is more than I expected, to be honest. I didn’t expect all of this. I expected some fans, but this is tremendous,” he said, per Eyewitness News' Randy Smith. “I just want to keep things [like this] going for the rest of my career, the rest of my life. As long as it takes my country to get back on its feet.”

Deandre Ayton enjoyed a solid rookie season with averages of 16.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks on 59% shooting. However, his numbers didn't win him the Rookie of the Year honors because he was part of a ridiculously deep rookie class headlined by Luka Doncic.
