Former Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is one step closer to making the Pro Football Hall of Fame after being named one of the 15 finalists for the 2024 class on Wednesday. If Johnson makes the Hall, he will become the first player to have spent the majority of his career with the Texans to make it in.

A day after he was announced as a finalist, Johnson shared that he never really thought about the Hall of Fame until he retired.

“I didn't really think about it when I was playing,” Johnson said on the Pat McAfee Show. “When my career was over I kind of looking at my stats and things I had accomplished and I was just like ‘damn, I really got a good chance at making it in the Hall of Fame.' But that was never a goal of mine when I came into the NFL.”

Johnson was drafted by the Texans in just their second year of existence, with Houston selecting him 3rd overall. He lived up to his high draft billing over his 11 years with the Texans. After leaving Houston, Johnson had brief one-year stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.

Over this span, Johnson recorded 1,062 receptions for 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns. He is the Texans franchise leader in career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He also holds the NFL record for most seasons eclipsing 100 receptions and 1,400 yards, having done so four times. Along with his stats, Johnson is a 2x first-team All-Pro, a 7x Pro-Bowler, and was the NFL's leader in receptions and receiving yards twice.

Andre Johnson already earned a red jacket when he was inducted into the Texans Ring of Honor, now he's looking to add a gold one to his collection.
