The Houston Texans have been mostly irrelevant for fantasy football all season. Outside of Brandin Cooks, there is no one on this roster you can count on for any type of consistent success. But earlier Tuesday, the Texans cut ties with running back Phillip Lindsay.

That has created a sneaky good play at running back for fantasy managers dealing with injuries or just willing to take a chance on Rex Burkhead.

This season, there have been a ton of injuries to starting running backs. Most of the injuries have not been season-ending, so it's been less of a talking point in fantasy football. But fantasy football is all about a single week, over and over, it's a one week season.

This week sees another opportunity sitting there on the waiver wire in just about every single league. The Texans' tailback Rex Burkhead has been in a time share with Lindsay and David Johnson most of the year. Houston cut Lindsay and Johnson is clearly a shell of his former self.

In their Week 11 upset of the Tennessee Titans, Texans' running back Rex Burkhead led the team with 18 rushing attempts. That only led to 40 rushing yards but David Johnson was given 13 carries and mustered a sad 18 yards.

The Texans face the New York Jets in Week 12. The Jets have allowed the most fantasy points to running backs this season, creating a prime opportunity for Burkhead.

With the news that the Jets will be without quarterbacks Mike White and Joe Flacco, they turn back to rookie Zack Wilson. That has not been good for the Jets offense, which could be very good for Houston's run game. Expect Burkhead to be a solid flex play this week, with RB2 upside.
