“It's been a year of calm. Homelander's subdued. Butcher works for the government, supervised by Hughie of all people. But both men itch to turn this peace and quiet into blood and bone. So when The Boys learn of a mysterious Anti-Supe weapon, it sends them crashing into the Seven, starting a war, and chasing the legend of the first Superhero: Soldier Boy.”
The Boys is set in a fictional alternate reality where superheroes exist, but most are corrupted by their superhero status, becoming arrogant, selfish, and narcissistic, often not caring about the people they've sworn to protect and engaging in reckless behavior that endangers the people around them. The eponymous The Boys are a group of vigilantes who vow to take down such corrupt superheroes to prevent them from harming anyone with their superpowers. Their main enemies are The Seven, the most popular group of superheroes who are secretly corrupt and conniving. Season 3 will introduce Jensen Ackles to the show's cast, playing the character of Captain America-esque Soldier Boy, the first-ever superhero, who makes a return.
Season 2 ended with a big confrontation between The Boys and The Seven, where Homelander narrowly captured Butcher and Ryan, and Stormfront's Nazi past leaked to the public. Starlight and A-Train get reinstated to The Seven, Ryan is taken in by the CIA, and Hughie gets a job with Neuman, unaware she is the assassin.
