Minnesota Timberwolves fans are getting their first look at the 2020 NBA Draft's No. 1 pick Anthony Edwards in their team's threads on Friday.

Edwards donned the team's home jersey in a photoshoot, and the first overall pick is rocking the No. 1 too as of now (via Timberwolves on Twitter).

The former Georgia star had a long road to being selected first overall.

Edwards was regarded by many as the best player in the draft immediately following the lottery, when the Timberwolves jumped multiple spots to grab the top slot.

But things shifted quite a bit over the course of the next few months. Minnesota made no bones about looking for a trade partner, though President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas was likely selling quite high. Plus, both LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman each seemed to be making their respective claims for the No. 1 pick.

However, the narrative changed again in the days leading up to the draft. It was assumed the Timberwolves would indeed pick Edwards in the event they could not find a trade, which makes the most sense considering the other moves Minnesota made on draft night.

The Timberwolves acquired Ricky Rubio from the Oklahoma City Thunder, essentially guaranteeing they would not select Ball. Although Wiseman would have formed a monstrous frontcourt, there would also be questions about his fit next to Karl-Anthony Towns.

Edwards, meanwhile, is a big and physical guard who could play on the wing. He has explosive athleticism and is capable at scoring at all three levels, though he will need to improve his perimeter shooting in the NBA.

In any case, Minnesota is hoping to take a big step forward in a loaded Western Conference. The Timberwolves will need Edwards to develop quickly in order to do just that.
