Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards should be the new face of the team, at least for former NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins. He claimed on Twitter that the team can trade everyone else and focus on building around the 19-year-old guard instead moving forward.

His bold claim came after Edwards notched a career-high 34 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. His production was also the main reason why the Timberwolves were able to roll past the Blazers en route to a 114-112 victory.

Two nights later, the rookie had another stellar performance as his team visited the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center. Edwards managed to hold his ground against LeBron James and company as he registered 29 points to go with four rebounds through 38 minutes played.

However, the Lakers also saw strong performances from James and Montrezl Harrell who scored 25 points apiece. This time around, the Timberwolves failed to carve out a win as they succumbed to the defending champions on a 137-121 defeat. Minnesota further dropped back to a 9-31 record for the 15th spot in the Western Conference.

Despite their struggles as a unit, the string of impressive performances put up by Edwards was enough for him to receive high praises from Kendrick Perkins.

Anthony Edwards will definitely make a stronger case for his candidacy in the ongoing Rookie of the Year race if he continues to notch stellar outings on the floor. Hopefully, his production will be enough to turn things around for the lowly Timberwolves for the second half of the season. Moreover, the Wolves are hoping this NBA Draft selection fairs as well, if not better, than some of the best in their history.
