Karl-Anthony Towns was a non-factor in the Minnesota Timberwolves' Game 3 meltdown against the Memphis Grizzlies. The All-Star big man scored just eight points on four shots as the Wolves allowed their opponents to crawl back from a huge 26-point deficit.
After the game, Towns tried to shed some light on why he has been shy about pulling the trigger of late. Apparently, it's all part of the plan (h/t Timberwolves beat reporter Dane Moore):
Karl-Anthony Towns said numerous times during the regular season that he's comfortable being a decoy when double teamed if that opens things up for his teammates.
With KAT only taking four shots tonight, I asked him if that had to do with being a decoy. This was KAT's response: pic.twitter.com/PUKgvF87dn

Towns even invoked Timberwolves icon Kevin Garnett in his lengthy explanation as he tried to make sense of his disappearing act. Much like in Game 3, Towns took only seven attempts in Game 2. Minnesota has now lost back-to-back games.
For what it's worth, KAT is right when he said that they found the right recipe in Game 3. They poured it on all over the Grizzlies as they built a seemingly insurmountable 26-point lead on their own home court. Unfortunately for them, they had no answer to Memphis' torrid run late in the game. All the Timberwolves could do was watch as the Grizzlies chipped away on their lead.
Needless to say, Towns and the rest of the team have to be much better in Game 4.
