Kevin Garnett will get his Boston Celtics No. 5 jersey retired soon, prompting so many in the league to wonder why the Minnesota Timberwolves haven't retired KG's No. 21 jersey.

When asked about it by NBA.com's Steve Aschburner, Garnett said he can't control what Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor does with his franchise:

“Listen, I had some great years in Minny,” Kevin Garnett said. “But when it comes to management, it’s not even close. Minny, they run it one way. Boston, which has a culture of basketball, they run it a whole ‘nother way. And I respect that. I can’t tell a man [Wolves owner Glen Taylor, whom Garnett feels broke a promise to bring him in as a minority owner] what to do with his possessions or whatever he owns. But I’m very appreciative of Boston and their retiring my number 5.”

Garnett played 14 seasons for the Timberwolves. In 970 career games with Minnesota, Garnett averaged 19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.6 blocks. He won the 2004 MVP award with the team as well.

KG criticized Taylor during the Jimmy Butler trade drama last season. The future Hall of Famer said Taylor “doesn’t know sh*t” about basketball.

Garnett finished his career with the Timberwolves after winning a championship with the Celtics and then playing a few years with the Brooklyn Nets. One would surmise the Timberwolves will eventually retire Garnett's number, unless Taylor holds a grudge forever.
