Minnesota Timberwolves fans have already engaged in some chatter as to who should the team draft number one overall after winning the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery on Thursday.

That discussion may be irrelevant in the coming months: The Timberwolves are reportedly open to trading that top selection.

Shortly after winning the lottery, Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas said this to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski:

“We have an open mind as we go through all of this. We want to do what’s best for this organization. And it means being thorough, being diligent and looking at every option. Draft, trade, free agency, whatever the case may be,” the Wolves executive said.

The Timberwolves have been heavily linked to trading for Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker and team him with good friends and 2015 draft buddies Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell.

The trio has publicly opened up about their desire to play for one NBA team. This dream is close after the Wolves struck a deal for Russell last February.

However, acquiring Booker would be extremely tricky for the Timberwolves since he just signed a massive five-year extension with Phoenix. Plus, given his amazing bubble-performance, it's unlikely the Suns will give up their star.

A package built around the 2020 top pick, however, can be enticing for other teams if the Timberwolves choose that route. Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman, and LaMelo Ball are considered the three best players from this year's pool.

Edwards is primed to go No. 1, and it seems he can give the Wolves an immediate boost. Timberwolves brass will certainly have their hands full in the coming weeks.
