The blockbuster trade between the Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves was surprising news for NBA fans to handle, but it was also a shocker for Robert Covington.

Covington grew into his role with the Sixers and became one of the most important players on the roster,  so it came as a surprise to him that he was part of the package that the team sent to Minnesota in exchange for Jimmy Butler.

“It was definitely a shocker. But understand it’s part of the business,” Robert Covington told Dane Moore of Zone Coverage. “You can be mad, but you can’t allow it to take away from the opportunity in front of you.”

There isn't much Covington can do other than go out and play his best for Tom Thibodeau and the Timberwolves. He'll have an opportunity to become a standout player in Minnesota. Of course, the Timberwolves are going to have a tough time securing a playoff spot in the Western Conference, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Covington and Dario Saric are legitimate starting-caliber players, and they join a young Timberwolves team filled with tons of talent. The team has been embroiled in controversy all season, but dealing Butler will give Minnesota a clean break that can allow them to play better.

Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins are starting to hear harsh criticism about their play, but there's no denying their talent. It won't be easy, but Covington, Towns, and Wiggins could develop into a solid core for the Timberwolves for years to come. At least, that's what everyone in Minnesota is hoping for.
