Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Ryan Saunders will have around 100 friends and family at the Target Center on Friday when he makes his home coaching debut against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Timberwolves fired Tom Thibodeau last Sunday and named Ryan Saunders the interim head coach. Ryan is the son of the late Flip Saunders.

It's going to be an emotional night for Ryan and the entire Saunders family on Friday. Flip Saunders passed away at the age of 60 three years ago, as he lost his battle with Hodgkin lymphoma. Now, Ryan is carrying on his dad's legacy in Minnesota and the entire Timberwolves fan base is behind him.

The Timberwolves defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Ryan's coaching debut on Tuesday, winning by a final score of 119-117. Minnesota enters Friday with a record of 20-21 and on a three-game winning streak.

Ryan Saunders is only 32 years old. He's going to connect with the players on the team well because he's not much older than them. Minnesota small forward Andrew Wiggins had the best game of his season on Tuesday, scoring 40 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against the Thunder. Ryan says he spoke to Wiggins before the game about being more aggressive, and the former No. 1 overall pick heard his new coach loud and clear.
