The UConn women's basketball team, ranked third in the nation, is off to a good start at 5-1. The Huskies are coming off of a convincing victory over number-22 ranked Notre Dame, but the win was a bittersweet one. UConn star Paige Bueckers suffered a knee injury late in the game. Head coach Geno Auriemma spoke on Bueckers' knee injury, offering a timeline on her potential return.

That's a nice message about Paige Bueckers, who has been excellent for the program, from UConn's Twitter account. That said, this is a brutal blow for the UConn women. Bueckers, the reigning National Player of the Year, has been one of the best players in the NCAA, averaging over 20 points and five assists per game in each of the last two seasons.

Bueckers will now be forced to miss six-to-eight weeks after her non-contact injury at the end of UConn's blowout win over the Fighting Irish. Fans criticized Geno Auriemma for leaving Bueckers in the game, certainly a fair take after she will now miss a chunk of the season.

Auriemma said he didn't have an explanation for why his star guard was in the game when UConn was clearly going to win, which won't satisfy fans, or perhaps even Bueckers herself.

Whether Paige Bueckers should have been in the game or not, her injury is a devastating blow to the title hopes of UConn and Auriemma, as well as a potential roadblock towards Bueckers' WNBA career. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery from Bueckers.
