UFC fighter Conor McGregor cleared the air in a follow-up Instagram post that his aunt did not pass away due to the coronavirus.

“I am grateful for the kind wishes and sympathy for my Auntie’s passing. I want to clear up that it has been confirmed she was not a victim of coronavirus,” McGregor wrote.

“As we prepare for her funeral I know that many of us will confront the virus in the weeks ahead. As I gather with my family I ask you all to make an extra effort to be there for friends and family during the stressful days ahead. And from my family, thank you for your support at this sad time”

This updates an earlier report that the former UFC champion's aunt died due to the illness.

Nonetheless, this is definitely sad news. The prized fighter still made sure to remind everyone to stay close with their loved ones as people all over the world prepare for the further spread of the coronavirus.

Conor McGregor, the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously in separate weight classes, said in a previous Instagram post that he found out the unfortunate news right before going live for a television taping. Upon hearing the news, the Irshman decided not to push through with the TV appearance.

The Notorious just returned from a lengthy hiatus from fighting. McGregor had a successful return to the Octagon after he defeated Donald Cerrone 40 seconds into the first round of their January bout.

Much like most other sports, the UFC is feeling the devastating effects of the coronavirus. Sports organizations have taken drastic measures to help prevent the further spread of the virus. Some have decided to suspend their season entirely, while some have opted to postpone their games or hold their games without fans.

The UFC recently announced that they will now hold one of its events behind closed doors. Likewise, they also transferred one of their scheduled shows in an isolated location.
