UFC rising star Khamzat Chimaev has previously called out Conor McGregor. However, John Kavanagh has a different idea.

Following his technical submission win over Jingliang Li at UFC 267, Khamzat Chimaev went to a call-out spree. Among the fighters he poked was former two-division champion Conor McGregor.

As expected, “The Notorious” gladly welcomed Chimaev. However, McGregor's longtime coach John Kavanagh doesn't see it coming to fruition anytime soon. Instead, he proposes a scrap between Chimaev and hjis other pupil Gunnar Nelson.

“Its been very interesting watching the rise of the uber talented and charismatic [Chimaev] @KChimaev. [UFC] @ufc is coming to London in March. as a fan i’d love to see him fight [Nelson] @GunniNelson. short flight to london for both of them….what you guys think?,” Kavanagh wrote on Twitter.

Looking at Nelson's resume, it appears that he is not the type of fighter Chimaev has been yearning for. The 33-year-old has not fought in the UFC since 2019 and unlike Chimaev, “Gunni” has lost his last two fights in the promotion.

McGregor, on the other hand, is still recovering from the horrifying leg injury he sustained in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July.

Though it may not happen soon, a UFC showdown between Chimaev and McGregor is likely to be a lot interesting given the drama behind it.

It can be recalled that Chimaev had earlier said that he doesn't respect McGregor as person and even claimed that he once flew to Ireland in the hope to beat up the former UFC champ “in the streets.”

McGregor, meanwhile, had previously claimed that Chimaev once offered to help him as he prepare for his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.
