It did not take long for the Philadelphia Eagles to suffer their first big loss after winning Super Bowl LII with the departure of quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo. Such is the case when teams are able to accomplish the ultimate goal in sports, and this time, the benefactors were the Minnesota Vikings.

The first item on DeFilippo's to-do list in Minnesota is helping pick their next starting quarterback for the 2018 season. Fortunately, he has set the criteria for what he feels is the ideal quarterback, according to ESPN's Twin Cities media:

“Character is number one for me. If you have character at that position, you have a chance to succeed. If you don’t have it, you have zero chance to succeed. Number one we are going to look for a person that’s going to represent our football team the way and conduct himself the way we want both on and off the football field. That’s very, very important.

“Number two, the three most important attributes of playing the quarterback position are decision making, timing and accuracy. So we’re going to heavily research into those three factors with whoever is the quarterback next year in Minnesota and really dig into those three areas.”

“And finally, a guy that shows some form of leadership. You don’t need to be a rah-rah kind of guy all the time, but you need to show some form of leadership so other guys will follow you, look up to you and when times get tough will play for you. All those things I just mentioned are important components of the quarterback position.”

One of the main reasons DiFilippo decided to join the Vikings was his promotion to playcalling duties. So, it was only natural that he would be part of the decision-making process with their quarterback conundrum this offseason.

However, his listed prerequisites will make it even more difficult given that Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, and Sam Bradford have all displayed just that at some point in their careers. Although many have presumed that the Vikings may be able to get a reasonable deal done with Keenum, early suggestions by players have started to lean in Bridgewater's favor. Meanwhile, it is starting to look as if Bradford will be the odd man out.
