The Minnesota Vikings have filled their vacant offensive coordinator position with former Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John Defilippo.

According to Chris Tomasson of St. Paul Pioneer Press, Defilippo has voiced that he will have some say as to the decision-making process for the Vikings' quarterback situation heading into free agency.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given that Vikings general manager Rick Spielman had previously stated that whoever was going to be named the new offensive coordinator would have some pull as to which of their quarterbacks fits best in the offensive game plan moving forward in the 2018 campaign and beyond that.

There still appears to be plenty of internal discussions that need to be held in Minnesota to determine the fate of their quarterback position. It's a difficult process that could have a major impact on the team's long-term future over the next few seasons.

What has been most telling about this has been the organization not fully supporting the notion that Case Keenum will be their starting quarterback beyond this upcoming offseason. Keep in mind, the New Orleans has taken that route with their situation with Drew Brees expressing that strongly through ownership and the coaching staff.  What makes this more interesting is that Keenum is coming off a career-best campaign where he helped lead the franchise to its first NFC Championship game appearance in eight years.

Meanwhile, there has been some public support for Teddy Bridgewater by a few teammates who have touted how great he has looked in his recovery from a dislocated knee and torn ACL that he suffered back in August 2016. In fact, it has given the sense that he could be the quarterback the team could bring back if things don't go as planned in the contract negotiations with Keenum.

This has also pushed Sam Bradford out of the picture at this point in time due to his continued struggles with his health as he missed almost the entire 2017 season due to reoccurring issues with his knee. Ultimately, there are clearly many questions for the Vikings to answer first before making a decision and the input of Defilippo figures to play a big part in that process.
