Last Wednesday, news broke that Jay Wright was retiring as the head coach of the Villanova Wildcats. The coach had a remarkable career with two NCAA Division I Tournament wins and four Final Four visits in 21 seasons.

While he's enjoying retirement now, Wright hasn't completely closed his future off to coaching.

The former Wildcats coach appeared on the Keyshawn, JWill & Max show on Tuesday. During his time on the ESPN show, Wright shared his thoughts on potentially coaching in the NBA.

“I'd be lying,” he said if he hadn't considered coaching in the NBA, all quotes courtesy of ESPN. While he has thought about a professional coaching career, the Villanova great isn't thinking about coming out of retirement just yet.

“Not right now. That was something I always thought about,” Wright said. “My experience with the Olympics kind of scratched that itch…I kind of feel like I did it a little bit. And I loved coaching those guys.”

Wright was one of the assistant coaches for the 2020 United States men's basketball team under head coach Gregg Popovich. The Villanova legend got experience coaching modern-day NBA superstars like Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum.

This NBA offseason, there will likely be many head coaching vacancies throughout the league. However, it sounds like we will have to wait a little longer until Wright is ready to bring his Villanova coaching talents to the NBA.
