Much has been made about these Kevin Durant-less NBA Finals being the golden opportunity for Stephen Curry to take the much-eluded Finals MVP. However, Golden State Warriors teammate Andrew Bogut doesn't think his point guard needs the award for extra validation.

“I think if you ask him he'll take that championship and everyone being healthy,” said Bogut, who was part of the Warriors' title team in 2015 and rejoined Golden State earlier this year, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell. “In my opinion, I don't think [winning Finals MVP] changes the direction of his career, but I guess for the media people that are out there criticizing him for not having that, it might silence them a little bit, for at least a year — until they find something else to criticize him for.”

Finals MVP has been the lone trophy missing from Curry's regalia of accolades — awards that put him high up there with some of the best to ever play the game.

Curry has also smashed several records, including becoming the first-ever unanimous MVP — a feat that undoubtedly will cement him with the best of the best.

Bogut however, thinks winning the award would help Curry reach even greater heights, even if he's not focused on the personal glory going into these NBA Finals.

“It would help him solidify his place in history, but I don't think that's going to matter too much to him,” Bogut said of Curry.

Ultimately, the next week will decide whether Curry finally gets his long-awaited trophy, or if it's simply not in the cards for him yet, despite five straight appearances in the NBA's biggest stage.
