While a number of NBA teams have traditions where they visit some schools or hospitals during the offseaon, the Golden State Warriors also have their own, but it’s not the usual place team’s go to.

The Dubs held their annual visit to the San Quentin State Prison last week, where some of their staff members play against inmates. Draymond Green and JaVale McGee were on hand to see the action live, and cheer on all competitors. They also spent time with the inmates by playing dominoes with their best players, according Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.

“McGee played dominoes with inmates off to the side and got schooled something vicious. In 2016, Draymond Green spent nearly all three hours at the domino table, talking trash with inmates. Next to the dominoes is a chess game where you better bring it to have a shot. And, I promise, homie on the pull-up bars was ready to compete for gold on the rings in the 2020 Summer Olympics.”

It may be a common sight for NBA players to bond with inmates, especially with training camps starting soon, but it also goes to show how they want to be closer to their fans. Although they are not expected to watch their games on a regular basis, one thing that’s certain is that they will cheer for the Warriors as Green and McGee have gained more supporters, after the inmates got to interact with them, and with the two not treating them differently.
