Hobbled with injuries, the Golden State Warriors’ 2019-20 campaign got off on the wrong foot as they got decimated by the Los Angeles Clippers, 141-122, at the Chase Center in their season opener.

Playing with a much leaner roster that they’re used to the last couple of seasons, the Warriors did not look like the same world-beater. It even prompted NBA Hall of Famer and TNT analyst Charles Barkley to explicitly proclaim that Golden State won’t make it to the postseason this year.

The team’s injured star Klay Thompson was right there at the panel when Barkley vented his ire, and he insisted that the current Warriors’ line-up can still surprise a lot of teams this year.

“I think these young guys are going to step up, man. I did a shooting drill with Jordan Poole yesterday, he smoked me in three out of five spots. Glenn Robinson has plenty of experience in this league. I really like what Marquese [Chriss] has given us this training camp, we’ve kind of revived him. I think it’s exciting, man. I think we have enough guys to get us there at least,” he shared.

Apart from acquiring All-Star D’Angelo Russell in the offseason, the Warriors filled some gaps in their roster by picking up under-utilized bigs Willie Cauley-Stein and Marquese Chriss.

They also claimed Glenn Robinson III and Alec Burks and drafted Jordan Poole with the 28th overall pick in the 2019 Draft.

The team still have two-time MVP Stephen Curry, who will likely shoulder bulk of the offense for Steve Kerr this year.
