In 2016 the Golden State Warriors were up 3-1 over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals and most thought the series was over, and that the Warriors had the title virtually in their bag. Evidently, that wasn't just the fans who thought that though, even some players like Klay Thompson thought that was how it would play out.

Thompson recently talked about it with Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated.

“I thought 2016, that year was guaranteed to hang another banner but obviously we didn’t,” Thompson said. “With injuries or free agency, you never know how long one team is going to stay together. Obviously with our current team now we have at least a couple more years together. Hopefully it’s forever, but you just want to take advantage now and get as many as you can while you can. You never know what’s guaranteed.”

It's really not surprising that Thompson thought that because even some Cleveland Cavaliers players thought that series was over when they were down 3-1 in the series. LeBron James, however, didn't let that be the case and he led the Cavaliers to their first championship.

For Klay Thompson and the Warriors though, that loss still eats away at them, and really drives them to not let that happen again. They also know not to take anything for granted because a bad injury or a suspension can take everything away from you.

So far this year Thompson is averaging 19.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He is shooting 49.6 percent from the field, and 44.9 percent from deep.

If the Warriors are to win another championship this year, he is going to be a key.
