It is difficult to nitpick where one can improve when they are performing at the highest level. That is certainly the case for Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry.

Per usual, the Warriors have gotten off to a slow start to the 2017-18 NBA season. With no shortage of offensive firepower, it is the defense that has looked flawed at times. According to Charles Perrin of the Daily Express, Curry is taking responsibility for his struggles on the defensive end:

“It’s getting away from bad habits of reaching and understanding that I have to focus for however I’m out there on the floor to resist the temptation to reach for steals or deflections,” Curry said.

The two-time MVP added that he may be a bit anxious due to a lack of pickup basketball in the summer.

“It’s kind of weird because I don’t play a lot of pick-up in the summer so it may be that when you get in that competitive atmosphere for the first time you want to go for everything.”

Fortunately, Curry's – as well as the team's – early defensive struggles have been masked by a terrific all-around group which is leading the league in offense by a significant margin.

It's interesting to see a player so offensively gifted stress about making improvements on defense. It is indicative of the mindset the Warriors have moving forward on their quest for their third ring in four years.
