Golden State Warriors big man James Wiseman had a rather injury-riddled rookie campaign in the Bay Area. He ended up playing just 39 games and ultimately tore his meniscus in April which led to season-ending surgery.
While there have been rumors swirling that the Warriors could trade Wiseman elsewhere in exchange for the No. 7 or 14 overall picks in the NBA Draft, there is also a growing belief he will be a key piece of their future. Head coach Steve Kerr was recently asked about Wiseman's recovery and based on his answer, it doesn't really feel like he will be going anywhere.
“He’s right on schedule for everything and, as of now, medical team tells me he will be ready for camp.”
The Warriors head coach also voiced his excitement on seeing Wiseman develop:
“Now we get a training camp with James, a whole season of development, plus seven and 14 in a deep draft.”
The Warriors could be scary next year. Two solid talents in the first round, a healthy Wiseman with a year of experience under his belt, and the Splash Brothers reunited. Getting back in the playoffs seems like a no-doubter for the Dubs at this point.
The fact that Wiseman is recovering well is great news and hopefully, he can stay healthy in year two and start to find a nice rhythm in the rotation.
