The Golden State Warriors have been nothing short of disappointing this 2019-20 season, but that does not mean there is nothing to gleam from the dismal march towards a top-five pick in May.

Head coach Steve Kerr on Tuesday expressed his desire to keep several younger players on the roster for next season. Kerr named the two-way contract players in point guard Ky Bowman and shooting guard Damion Lee as the players he wants to be on the regular lineup come the 2020-21 campaign.

The two young guards joined the roster as two-way players — essentially G Leaguers who can play with the big-league a maximum of 45 days before the contract expires — but they saw their roles augmented due to the slew of injuries facing Golden State this season.

Bowman, a 22-year-old undrafted rookie out of Boston College, is averaging 8.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, making 26 appearances and six starts so far.

Lee, 27, joined the Warriors via their G League team in 2017 before signing with the Atlanta Hawks. The wing out of Louisville re-joined the Santa Cruz Warriors by signing a two-way contract with the Bay Area franchise last season and only appeared in 32 games in 2018-19. So far, Lee has played 14 games for Golden State.

Lee is averaging 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game for the 5-23 team.

Both Bowman and Lee are averaging more than 20 minutes a contest for the Warriors, cementing them as core members of the team in spite of the initial expectations put on them — that is, two-way players who could instead hone their games in the G League.
