The Golden State Warriors selected Jonathan Kuminga with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, but apparently, he wasn't their first choice. According to Josh Giddey's dad, the Dubs told his agent they were going to draft him if he was still on the board but instead, the Aussie went to the Oklahoma City Thunder a pick before. Via The Oklahoman:

“Now how much you read into that,” Warrick said, “a lot of times teams will give you promises that they obviously won’t and can’t (keep).”

Giddey in a Warriors uniform would've been interesting. Another guard on the roster could've been valuable, but it's not like they've needed it with the emergence of Jordan Poole. Golden State will be happy with their decision to draft Kuminga, though. The big man has shown flashes of brilliance early on, but because of Golden State's deep roster, he and fellow rookie Moses Moody haven't seen the type of minutes other lottery picks have across the league.

As for Giddey, he's had a pretty solid role for the Thunder, averaging 9.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists while starting all 11 games this season. It would've been interesting to see him develop under the tutelage of Steph Curry on the Warriors, but Golden State won't regret taking Kuminga instead because his potential is sky-high.
