The Kansas City Chiefs opened up a lot of eyes with their impressive win on Sunday afternoon against the New England Patriots. The win was impressive, but we also learned a lot of things about the Chiefs that are going to be key as they get ready for the playoffs.

Let's look at what exactly we learned from their Week 14 win over the Patriots.

They can't keep their foot off the gas

The biggest lesson that was learned in this game was all about game plan for the Chiefs. The Chiefs scored 20 points in the first half, but in the second half they seemed to get conservative and they only scored three points. Some of that had to do with the Patriots' defense, but the play-calling seemed to want to burn clock instead of continuing to keep their foot on the gas.

The Patriots almost came back and if they would have lost, there would have been a lot of heat on the coaching staff. The Chiefs can't take their foot off the gas, even if they have a comfortable lead.

Their defense can step up in key moments

Everyone knows about the Chiefs' offense, but the defense has been considered the real weakness and it has held them back in some games.

The Patriots offense isn't the same as years past, but what the Chiefs defense did was impressive. Tom Brady was under pressure most of the game and he was visibly frustrated. He finished the game throwing for only 169 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

The Patriots also had a lot of issues establishing a running game and James White was the top runner finishing with only 33 yards.

The Chiefs can win a road game even under pressure

The Chiefs currently sit with a 9-4 record which is impressive, but the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots have better records. The Chiefs might have a home game in the first round of the playoffs, but this team has Super Bowl aspirations. To reach those goals it means they are probably going to have to go on the road, either to New England or Baltimore.

Anything can happen as the season goes on, but at least this team has confidence if they do need to go on the road during the playoffs, they know they can the game.

How fun would it be to see these two face off again in the playoffs?
