The Chicago White Sox received a mixed bag of injury and health updates on Wednesday. First, they announced that Lucas Giolito will return from the COVID injured list to start against the Royals in Kansas City. However, the move forced Chicago to transfer Lance Lynn from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL in order to create a roster spot for Giolito.

The IL transfer doesn't signify any major setbacks for Lynn. But it does indicate that his knee injury is nothing to take lightly. The White Sox wouldn't have made this move if they felt he was on the verge of returning.

As for Giolito, there could be some after effects of COVID in Wednesday's outing. The White Sox ace stated that this was his second bout with the sickness and that it was worse this time around.

“It was (my) second time having it. I had it in the offseason and this time was a little bit rougher the first couple of days. But I recovered very quickly. Excited to be back. It was not fun being away from the team and having to watch all the games on TV,” Giolito continued. “I had body aches and stuff in the mornings and at night. It was two days of pretty bad. During the daytime, when we got meds in me, I was pretty good. But it was important to rest and recuperate. I’m glad to be feeling 100% now and back.”

The White Sox rotation is close to returning to full health with Giolito back in the fold. They also got a major Johnny Cueto boost in his 2022 debut earlier this week.

Chicago has played a mediocre brand of baseball to open the season. But they still should be able to make a strong run at winning the AL Central.
