The Los Angeles Chargers got their franchise quarterback of the future by drafting Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Herbert said he would like to come in and play right away, but Tyrod Taylor is still on the team, which means a competition could happen.

“They asked me how I felt about it and I said I’m going to do everything I can to be the best quarterback I can be,” Herbert said via Pro Football Talk. “If I’m the guy, that’s great, I love playing football and I want to be the guy. But if I have to sit back and learn I’m going to do everything I can to be the quarterback I need to be.”

So what will the first year look like for Herbert with the Chargers? Here's three bold predictions for Herbert's rookie season.

3. Starts the season on the bench

It shouldn't take long for Herbert to adjust to life in the NFL but with so many unknowns surronding the COVID-19 Pandemic, it's going to take a little longer.

The Chargers shouldn't be in any rush to get Herbert onto the field, which means Tyrod Taylor is going to get the first start. The time on the bench is going to be good for him as he deals with the pressures of an NFL quarterback

2. Starts at least eight games, Wins at least five.

Even though Herbert is going to start his career on the bench, he will get some run as the starter. Look for him to start at least eight games. In those eight games he is going to win at least five of them.

The Chargers have a good running game, and the defense is strong. Even if Herbert struggles with the talent of the rest of the team they should be able to win at least two or three.

Herbert is going to play well, and lead the team to at least five victories.

1. Throws at least 16 touchdowns

Once Herbert does start, don't look for the Chargers to be tentative with him. He is going to find plenty of success throwing the ball which is good news because the AFC West is going to be high scoring.

Look for Herbert to throw at least 16 touchdowns as a rookie. The turnovers also won't be an issue as he averages less than one game.  Even though Herbert didn't start the beginning of the season. there will be some who wished he started to begin the season.
