Apex Legends quickly established itself as a premier competitive title swiftly since its launch in February 2019. The game offered a brand new battle royale experience that focused on high mobility and a wide variety of guns to choose, love, and hate. Now, the hit game looks to expand its cross-play capabilities as it's set to launch for the Nintendo Switch on March 9, 2021.

TIME FOR A SWITCH

Apex Legends has always been available on multiple platforms but the cross-play functionality was a recent addition. Cross-play for the game started off in October 2020.  Similarly, the game only landed on the Steam platform towards the tail end of 2020. Chad Grenier, Apex Legends game director, stressed his team's focus on making cross-play a reality for players. Fans' unceasing requests for the function emboldened Respawn's efforts in making it a reality.

“Since the launch of Apex Legends, cross-play has been one of the most requested features from our players who want the ability to play with their friends on other platforms.”

Apex launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One alongside its exclusive PC launch on Origin. Now, the game finally finds its home on the final missing home console, the Nintendo Switch. Things continue to look up for the hit battle royale with its recently concluded Second-Anniversary event. Above all, the game finally broke through the Steam's top 5 games in terms of concurrent player count.

Naturally, the Nintendo Switch version of Apex Legends will also offer cross-play for its players. It'll be difficult to match up with players with tons of experience on other platforms but it'll be a fun challenge nonetheless.
