Apex Legends breaks into Steam’s top 5 most played games

Respawn Entertainment, EA, Apex Legends

Apex Legends officially launched on Steam on November 4, 2020. The game exploded in popularity after it broke free from its initial Origin platform. Currently, the game is going through its second competitive season on the Steam platform. Additionally, several fun events keep the entire experience exciting for all of its players and now we have the official numbers. Apex Legends has officially broken into Steam’s top five games in terms of concurrent players.

The battle royale’s noteworthy Steam achievement comes hot on the heels of the game’s second-anniversary celebration. It’s challenging to get an Apex Champion win, but the game itself has successfully won over many lovers of the genre. The game’s popularity has been cemented with its top 5 placement but overall it’s a well-crafted title. The game only fell behind Steam mainstays Counter-strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS. Valheim, another recent newcomer to the Steam platform, found its way to the fourth spot.

Steam Top Games by Current Player Count

  1. CS: GO – 967,305
  2. Dota 2 – 491,676
  3. PUBG – 424,462
  4. Valheim – 199,466
  5. Apex Legends – 172,630

There’s no accounting for player taste but Steam players generally respond favorably to great competitive titles. Above all, Apex’s achievement becomes more impressive considering the game has only been playable on Steam for a little over 4 months. Who knows just how big this game will get in the coming months.

Currently, Apex Season is in its 8th competitive season.  The second-anniversary is about to wrap up but several parts of the event could become permanent fixtures to the title. One thing is for certain, Respawn Entertainment clearly cares about the quality of its game. Undoubtedly, the spike in player count will translate into a better experience for players overall.
